New Amy Winehouse Album Set For Release
Story Highlight
The posthumous record was compiled by Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi
Amy Winehouse’s label Island Records will release a posthumous album entitled ‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ later this year.
The 12 track album collates previously unreleased tracks, alternative versions of existing classics and brand new compositions that were recorded before, during and after the release of 2003’s ‘Frank’ and 2006’s ‘Back To Black’.
Set for release on 5th December, the album was put together by Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi in close connection with Amy’s family.
New tracks featured on the record include a collaboration with US rapper Nas called ‘Like Smoke’ and ‘Between The Cheats’ which reportedly chronicles the demise of her relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil.
Other previously unheard songs ‘Halftime’ and ‘The Girl From Ipanema’ were recorded during the sessions for ‘Frank’.
Elsewhere, the recently released Tony Bennett collaboration ‘Body & Soul’ and alternate versions of ‘Valerie’ and ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’ sit alongside covers of Donny Hathaway's 'A Song For You', The Shirelles' 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' and Ruby & The Romantics' 'Our Day Will Come'.
£1 from each album sold will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which supports young people with addictions, ill health and disabilities.
Amy’s dad Mitch said of the record: “I spent so much time chasing after Amy, telling her off that I never realized what a true genius she was.
“It wasn’t until I sat down with the rest of the family and listened to this album that I fully appreciated the breadth of Amy’s talent, from jazz standards to hip hop songs, it really took my breath away.”
